Nitrofurantoin and Flavoxate are two different medications that may be prescribed together to manage symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI). 

• Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic used to treat and prevent bacterial infections of the urinary tract, such as bladder infections (cystitis). It works by killing the bacteria causing the infection. The "Sustained Release" (SR) or "Macrobid" formulation ensures the medication is released slowly for prolonged action, often taken twice daily.
• Flavoxate is an antispasmodic (muscle relaxant) that is used to relieve symptoms associated with UTIs or an overactive bladder. It works by relaxing the muscles of the urinary bladder and tract, which helps alleviate symptoms like:
  • Painful or burning urination
  • Frequent urination or urinary urgency
  • Inability to control urine flow (incontinence)
  • Excessive urination at night (nocturia) 

When used together, the nitrofurantoin treats the underlying bacterial infection, while the flavoxate provides relief from the painful urinary symptoms (spasms, urgency, etc.)
